Me Tarzan. You [Not] Voting

Go ahead, ask me why I'm not voting. Ask me why I would give up my constitutional right to choose the 'lesser of two evils. Ask me if I am aware of the importance of Democracy and why I NEED to take part in this, another ‘Mother of Elections’. Speak to me all the things I've thought about or believed in and I'll tell you two words: Space Program. I have a belief system that says: Leaders are meant to provide a framework for an actual future instead of merely pandering to the public's present. This fabulous secret was revealed to me, not as I held aloft my magic sword but as I listened to ads about pipe-borne water, community centers and of course, housing developments. It dawned on me that any government bent on taking their citizenry to a First World/Self Sufficient/Scientifically and Spiritually sound future must have a vision or else a working hypothesis of where they want the nation to be. This vision/hypothesis may be consid...

Me Tarzan. You After Credit

Give Some (after) Credit It was the early 2000s. Matrix Revolutions had just ended and almost everyone was rushing out of the cinema. There were a handful of us who lingered a smidge before leaving; I for one stayed for the music (I would later buy the soundtrack). Of course, most didn't see the need to stick around; the bathroom was an ample enough reason to exit stage right. Besides, what value was there in reading who "key grip one" was? Nobody likes end credits. Then came the resurgence of superhero films. Iron Man made some regret leaving the film at credit roll, for others it was a rewarding experience and a glimpse of what Marvel Studios had planned for years to come. Now movie goers know better than to walk out of a film before the full credits roll out. Well most. There are still people who must be reminded, "Oye, this is a Marvel film", as they rush out the cinema. These people are a peeve of mine quite like the people who douse their Subway artisanal ...

Me Tarzan. You Seven Tips (for the silly season)

And then the Election Date was called [which brought about groaning and gnashing of teeth] and with it, of course, the loyal... nay, BLIND supporters in their varied forms. To say this worries me is an understatement. For the next three months (till September 07th), you may be inundated with a menagerie of messages, so i thought... why not share SEVEN  tiny points to guide you along your way this Silly Season. 1 . As luck would have it, people OUTSIDE of YOUR religion cares about your party. I know! Shocking right?! There are ACTUAL devout Hindus, Muslims and Christians praying for the good of your fearless leader. So take it down. 2. Undecided? Ask the prospective candidates a question that is important to YOU. It may not be important to them (and the trolls will come out eh) but ask. For example, " Where do you stand on about conservation?" Depending on how they handle it [chuckle, wave, scratch head or write on their Facebook wall, "thanks for that importan...

Me Tarzan. You Basically Words

There are certain words and phrases that never gets old; "I love you" is one such word, "Your cheque's ready" is another such word. Words like, "If elected i promise..."... Not so much. Elections have become a nuisance to my soul and a pestilence to my ears. Unfortunately, elections are akin to a year long Christmas to most; I find that disturbing. Gifts, gifts for all! Improvements everywhere! The things that you should have been given for four years, you receive on the fifth. It's like how earth creatures think that poor people only eat at Christmas. Take apples! Stuff your face with grapes! Eat, eeeeeeat! This is how I view elections and all the gift giving that follows. Mind you, these things that the populace continues to get excited about are considered basic amenities. This means it's not parade worthy to get what you're supposed to be getting already. You're SUPPOSED to have adequate housing. You're SUPPOSED to have more ...

Me Tarzan. You Good Thing

Okay, so one time (in band camp?) I experienced something beautiful... No bill worries. I mean, EVERYTHING was in order. Heck, if I got up one morning with the random urge for cupcakes... So be it. All was financially sound, money back in the bank et al. ... Walking back from the bakery one morning though, I started feeling off. Something... Was off. Then I realized what it was: I was at peace. I hadn't been at peace for so long that when I found myself IN IT, my mind got worried. What's up with this good thing? ... For a little over a year, I had a plumbing problem; the main valve inside the apartment was leaking. Drip. Drip. Drip. We devised a catchment device to catch all the water but still, we were slaves to it. Sleep was not sound; couldn't go out for any real length of time without worrying about leaking/flooding. Now I found a plumber, but as a freelancer who wasn't working regularly, monies went to other things of note (mortgage etc). Long story short, yest...

Me Tarzan. You Other Shoe

In the end, intellect may only take you thus far; a thought that -even for my theist sensibilities - is troubling. But truly, unless you are or embody the attributes of an empath, you may not necessarily understand a person or situation unless you're wearing the other shoe [i.e.: theirs]. Which brings us to this: Two weeks ago, we had my grandmother's funeral. Through the swirling vortex of emotion, I tried to keep my head up and my eyes dry. But as the days drew closer I started to get all the more agitated. That is, until I poured the Rum Punch. Oh glorious rum punch; ye splendid algorithm of alcohol. One night I poured a small amount and drank with one gulp. No ice, no ceremonious concoctions; just a glass and a swig of rum punch. I felt GREAT. Peaceful. Calm. ... I understood right then and there WHY people drink. In that moment, I became the settled nerve at the prescription of Dr. Alcohol... And that's just rum punch. I already subscribe to the belief of hypothesi...

Me Tarzan. You Aimless

I think an award should be given to people who, though not knowing the what where why or how of [their] life, still get up every morning and trod on. Also, I'd like to be the first recipient. A fabulous secret was revealed to me today: I have no idea how I feel about anything. ... Nope, correction, I know exactly how I feel: aimless. I got off the phone with a friend and businessman who feels excited to wake up every morning and get to work (his work of course; he owns a business). He's excitable. Hearing him speak gets ME excited about HIS plans. I realized however, I do not accurately remember the last time I actively got excited for the morning or anything. Let me stop here and say, it's not like I live in a constant state of limbo and/or eternal despair; truth be told, once I actively pull myself away from bed, I tend to be fine. But of late, I just want to lay in my bed till the world (my world) makes sense. I'm not in the mood to keep writing; I'm not su...
