Me Tarzan. You Out of Your Darn Mind

My mother never did the baby talk nonsense when i was born. She spoke to me like an actual being (or as toddler tracy used to say - "i am a human beast"). We have held differing belief systems since i was a child and sometimes that has brought on a level of conflict but nothing that has caused either of us mortal danger. My mom always believed that she was raising a leader and thus, for all the crap we faced (losing our home, days of -seemingly- endless hunger, being misunderstood, gossiped about and taken advantage of) we held our own because my mother is a Hutchings and she was raising... a leader. My home was filled with National Geographic and those 'You and Your Health' blue encyclopedias. And even though, she'd be pretty pissed when i wouldn't sit down (all the time) to an educational documentary, she knew how to move. That is not to say i haven't gotten my share of "hurry-slap" and a cut-arse now and again and i know why; in a sense, i u...

Me Tarzan: You Hero (who is the...)

I don't remember how it started or what spurred it on. It was last year. Maybe I was thinking of a friend who shares the same name but I do know how it ended. Me, realising how much Ishmael (Judeo-Christian narrative) was a single parent child and worse, that blessed 'Father Abraham' was an absentee father. For those who may have missed the Judeo-Christian storyline: Abraham (formerly Abram) gets told he will be the father of many nations; which is all fine and dandy except he and his wife Sarah (formerly Sarai) are old and childless. Yet, as promised by God and spoken by the three (angelic) visitors, Abraham knows he's going to be a father. Sarah, realising - this is ridiculous, i'm old - GIVES HIM her handmaiden Hagar to basically marry and have a child by her (i say 'marry' because I don't see him just sleeping with her without some type of ceremony taking place). Hagar has a son - Ishmael. Praises Be. Some thirteen years later, Sarah - with whom...

Me Tarzan: You OGMABA Wk1

Every Friday. On This Blog. OH. JUST. GIVE. ME... A BREAK ALREADY! (said dramatically like Scandal) Alright, alright. Let’s talk the God Wife and be done with forever. a). OF COURSE the text is real; you think 66 books were the only ones in existence back in the day? EVERYONE WROTE…. The reason though, why mainstream Christianity will not buy into it, is because there were factions back then. You had the Apostolic Christianity (St. Peter’s works, St. Paul etc.) and you had Gnostic Christianity. You had factions that believed the soul couldn’t be touched; that the body could do/be as evil as it might be but the soul remained pure which conflicted with the doctrine that the soul (seat of emotions/will/power) could be darkened and needed a Saviour. Grief, you even had factions who believed the new Christians should circumcise and follow the Moses Law (which brought no end of grief to the likes of St. Paul). Thus, with all these factions an...

Me Tarzan. You Earnest (The Problem With Being...)

When we were in school, there may have been a subject (math) that we may not have been overtly fond of.  We might have even said, "I don't see how learning Pythagoras' Theorem will help me get fry chicken..."  We said these type of statements because we were stupid. Daft. Ridiculous. Stupid.  All knowledge - whether or not you have an immediate practical use for it - is good to have because (if nothing else), it helps to form new connections in the brain. This will, in turn, help you to a). see your world more clearly b). hypothesis and rationalise a series of solutions for said world. Thus, even though I may not like the mathematical implications of Pythagoras, knowing the theorem may help me gravitate to more interesting information about the man and having learned about the man, I can form a hypothesis on the merits of sacrificing cows... or even... understanding the human condition around me. I earnestly seek out knowledge. I like lapping up things that have...

Me Tarzan. You Practical Prayer

Let me tell you a truth: Prayer is an instrument. What's more, prayer is a tool and like all tools, if you use it correctly, if you use it correctly it yields life-altering results. Of course.... you can still take a screw out with a knife rather than a screwdriver, but it pays to have (and know how to use) the right tools. Prayer changes lives in two ways: 1. It allows ON HIGH POWER to freely move in a situation or person. In fact, to paraphrase Dr. Miles Munroe, when you pray, you give God the permission to work/do what is necessary on your behalf (to change said situations). this may be based on the premise that God is a Gentleman and will not forcibly go where he is not wanted. 2. It calms mental energies. face it, whether one believes or doesn't believe in actual prayer, the very act of praying helps soothes consciences (contrition/confessing out loud), provides a sense of absolution (much sought between humans) and gives peace where there is pain. Pray for a grieving f...

Me Tarzan: In The Absence of Soul

I wrote two articles about HATE before this one. And I'm not talking about petty irritation that you humans disguise as hatred, i mean genuine HATE; and i know it was genuine because of two proofs: 1. The blinding clarity i got (i've said it before and i'll say it again - love covers a multitude of sins but hatred has a kind of blinding/blistering clarity to it. 2. The alarming tightening of my chest. To this day, there are moments where breathing is somewhat laboured (and good lord, the bile... or "cold"... but i know this to be just an expression of utter hatred) I felt... feel... felt like the C-4 left at teh base of my heart/soul had finally (FINALLY) exploded; not just breaking it, but shattering it to dust. As i thought about that, though, i realised there was now two states of being thanks to this soul dust or as the header states: The Absence of Soul. 1. The Freedom To Act: soul is said to be the seat of emotions and i'd even say, your co...

Me Tarzan. You Hustler.

One of the joys of freelance is knowing when and how to follow the money. Like a decent street walker you know. In fact, the word "freelancer" in the original Hittite IS "prostitute".  You're not in a cushy office anymore; you're not doing the random act of freelance WHILE at said cushy office. This isn't about supplementing your income, this IS your income. And at times it's wonderful. You get a new project, throw yourself into it, get paid... move on. minimal stress. This is provided that the client has scruples or accepts  your fee to begin with (or doesn't say - yes! we need you but send the quote and then miraculously disappears weeks later). So here i was prepping a project for a client when i get an email to go play dress up for one of my favourite brands. Instant cash. I jump at it, because let's face it, bills do not stop because your main stay has. All was well (as well as can be for what its worth) when i heard an audible voice...
